:icon_eek:I really, truly need the help of the whole forum. Tomorrow I have an interview at a technical support call center here is dallas texas that supports Cable TV, Computer/Internet, and Digital phone service for multiple clients (not sure which ones). Not onl;y do they p[ay decent and have decent benefits but they have the same work hard play hard attitude that the Tech Department of old school internet providers like Earthlink, World Lynx in Little Rock. The same attitude that all tech support call center had back in the late '90s and shortly after the turn of the 21st century. For reasons involving kids, family, location, etc, etc, etc I have been denied the opportunity to work in such a place since 2001. Now all those reasons have resolved theirselves and I'm free to be a nere do well support tech again having the time of my life and having to be run out of the building to go home, (They have pool tables and an in house internet cafe, as well as dart boards, all the overtime you can handle, full benefits, transit pass subsidy, etc. If I can get mega good thoughts form everybody that thinks of it from about 1:00 to 3:00 pm central time tomorrow maybe they'll not notice that I'm more than twice as old as their average tech and really do have a brilliant ability to talk to people and resolve issues to the benefit of both sides. Man I'm tired of working in outbound sales, and every sinve I started playing with phones seriously a few months ago this has been building up in my mind like the aging of a fine bourbon. Can an old guy get an "all for one and one for all, GO ALTSPEED?" You really don't know how happy it would make me to get even a few encouraging responses while I'm brushing up on hardware and network theory tonight and in the wee hours.

YES, thass 'zackly what I'm talkin' bout (((Chizzele))), many thanks, I have at this point killed their online practice test for the typing part (35 WPM with 95% accuracy) 13 consequetive times, clothes are ready and hung, shoes polished (puzzled why their interview dress code is different for the work on?, interview is dress shirt and pants, work is jeans and T shirt, I think I'll wear my thinkgeek "I Void Warranties" the first real day if I get the job :) All I have to do in the morning is the BIG shave (head and face) and look over this obsolete networking and hardware info they want to quiz me on (not really obsolete, just haven't had to think about it in verbal terms in more than 10 years).
anybody else wanna wish me luck so I'll be even more primed?

Good luck! I'll add you to the prayer list tomorrow,,let us all know how it turns out for you.

Good luck altspeed...walk in there, chin up...and may the stars be shining on ya!

Hope I didn't miss the boat here: Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately it was not to be. I killed the typing test (47 WPM 100% accuracy). Then when I thought I was on the way to the networking, hardware, OSs and platforms part, they stuck me in a room with PCs with headphones where I had to take 4 simulated customer service calls FOR A TRAVEL AGENCY? I handled them professionally, courteously, and to the best of my knowledge (I've only been talking to people on the phone for a living for 20 years) and FLUNKED. I was then told "try back again in 6 months" and escorted off the premises. Try WHAT again in 6 months, being humiliated by a situation I was given no pre-knowledge of and no way to prepare for? I'll have to see about that one and grill their recruiter more thoroughly (perhaps on a Jenn Aire) if there is a next time.

Thanks for the support guys, I'd rather help the people I can here than talk to idiots for money anyway.

Sorry to hear that altspeed.

we've got folks from 18 to 65 working in our external customer support desk. If you can relate to folks, get them to calm down by empathizing them and get them to follow t/s steps that might resolve their issue we'd hire you in a second. 'specially if you're a fairly steady person with a family to support. Good luck!

I'll supply the wood chips for the smoker box! That recruiter should taste pretty good with some hickory, mesquite and apple smoke on his glutes...LOL!

Truth is you're too good for them.
