With the three phones and data card I have on my account it actually works out cheaper for me to go with 4GB shared and pay the monthly device fee. I have never gone over 2GB a month on my phone and the wife's data card seldom gets used. Actually I could give her my OG Droid and let her tether with that and save another $20 a month.
BTW Tether/hotspot service is free with the new plans I am reading.
