What app do I need?

Do I have to worry about all the apps I install running in the background? Even if they don't affect the phone, I really don't want any extra app I get to be sitting there lurking in the background-just don't trust it Is there something akin to taskkiller than can keep certain apps from loading up unless I choose to?

Technically yes, the apps stay loaded in memory until the os kills it to make room for another app. Leaving them loaded in memory increases the speed of the app. You can download a free taskkiller app from the market if you wish, but most will tell you that it is not needed or recommended.
