What Caused ALL of My Contacts to Disappear Twice In Two Days?

I have searched the forum for the cause of this, but to no avail. My contacts have disappeared twice in two days. I just successfully synced with Google and brought most of them back. But I am missing some contacts. I have selected "Display Options", and checked every option in gmail and Facebook. Please help. This is an unacceptable problem. Luckily, this happened on a weekend when I had time to resolve an issue that should not have happened to begin with. I truly love the Droid, but I can't have this happen during work. I am running 2.0.1 and have learned to export contacts to SD card, just in case. For the record, the contacts disappeared the first time after I powered down the phone. The second time happened after I had gmail start forwarding my POP home e-mail. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
