What exactly is the GPS functionality of Eris Droid?

Just got my Eris Droid and it looks pretty cool. I had an LG 8300 with VZ navigator, mobile email, etc. and switched to the Droid because the data plan was close in price to all the "add-ins" I was paying monthly for. I love VZ Navigator but am pretty disappointed in what seems like a lack of decent GPS functionality in the Eris. The GPS seems pretty finicky about turning on too.. Can the GPS follow your position when driving, etc? ? Do we have to wait til the OS 2.whatever to have turn-by-turn and voice functionality? sorry for the newbie questions, but just got the thing. Thanks!

My Eris can track my driving just fine... There aren't turn by turn directions.. yet. Android 2.1 is coming to the Eris in March *. That will have the Droids turn by turn.

* HTC just announce the 2.1 update for the Hero in March, the Eris is just a reskinned Hero.
