What is Froyo?

I have been going on to the forums and I see everyone talking about froyo 2.1 and froyo 2.2. I am new to the droid world and have a lot to learn and I have a feeling that I should know this by now but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help me out?

It is the name for the Android 2.2 operating system, froyo being short for frozen yogurt

2.1 was named eclair and the upcoming 3.0 is to be named gingerbread and possibly after that is honeycomb they are in alphabetical order and follow some kind of sweet food/pastry sequence

Froyo is not installed on the Droid X yet.

2.2 will come as an OTA (over the air) update sometime in the next few months, you can tell your O/S version by going to settings/about phone/android version

Thanks for the explanations
