I've just seen a weird notification on my lockscreen. I'm not sure what it is but it was a purple icon with system hi written next to it. It appeared as soon as I turned my lockscreen on then dissapeared instantly and I've never seen it before.

System hi...if younger it to come back, see if you can screen shot it..

Well some weird things have been happening lately. ......Friends receiving picture message links I didn't send from my number ...... I've received texts where the date was 1st Jan 1970....... Also when I run a stage fright detector I show up with 2 vulnerabilities. Or maybe these just haven't been patched by htc?

This must have been what it was but why would it appear as a notification on my lockscreen

Wow..idk..I have no clue at this point.. Try rebooting your device..and monitor it from there..

If you think you have spyware..the awesome thing about Android is an fdr will remove it..even the stuff that supposedly stays hidden

Factory reset. Get to it in settings or from the boot menu.

This will wipe ALL data from your phone.

A factory data reset (fdr) will erase everything on your phone and bring it to out of the box, new condition. Be sure to back up (to the cloud, your pc or an external sd card) any pictures, documents, data that you want to save. After you do the fdr, you will set up your phone just like you have to when it's brand new. Depending on your settings, your google play apps might automatically start reinstalling after you set up your phone. I would recommend that you install your apps, one at a time.

I'd wait a while and see if this happens again before I'd do a factory reset. Could just be a fluke or something. No sense in starting all over if you don't HAVE to.

JK may be right...wait to see if problems happen again (because an fdr takes some time to back up everything, etc). But if any of the problems mentioned in your post above do surface, your safest bet is to do an fdr.
