What root and unroot means?

I have droid 2, 2.2 android. This doesnt need to root?

I am curious about rooting on my phone, overclocking, underclocking and save battery life.

How do i know if my phone is rooted or not rooted?

All phones are not rooted when you purchase them. You have to root it yourself. Rooting it unlocks the phone so that you can do more with it. I am in the process of rooting in a an hour or so. lol
