Philadelphia, Pennsylvania suburb (15 miles west). 215 was THE area code for Philadelphia until perhaps three decades ago when it became necessary to add other areas codes due to saturation. Now it also includes (267), and includes the near Northern and Eastern suburbs.
The Western/Southwestern and far Northern suburbs likewise were (610), but now also include (484).
Got it in the beginning when I could choose the area code, there were 3 for the area, now 5, and from a large selection of prefixes with last 4 combinations, to make it easier to remember.

Likewise. I chose (215) on Google Voice to match my main number's area code. Even more poignant I got my Verizon numbers (4 lines total, ending in 000, 100, 200, & 300), in 1993. I've kept all but the 300 number these last 23 years.

I had whatever Google Voice was before Google bought the company. Grand Central maybe? I gave it to a buddy, who was temporarily out of work and about to be a daddy for the first time, who sold it on eBay and bought something for his son with the money.
GV then came around and I got one with not only my local area code but a local exchange, pretty much like Grand Central (if that's what it was called) had. I had GC forwarded to my sister's house in NC so my dad could call that number from here in Virginia and it wasn't long distance. Once she got a cell phone she started calling him every weekend instead so I gave it to my buddy.
I rarely use my Google Voice number anymore either.

If you ask Google for a new number to REPLACE your current GV # there is a $10 charge. After 90 days, your old # gets removed. If you want to KEEP your old # permanently, there is a one time $20 charge.
