when restoring to a previous nandroid backup, do I need to wipe data/cache?

I finally have a stable froyo rom installed but am keeping my stable 2.1 nandroid backup in case anything goes wrong, and will be switching back and forth quite a bit so I can tweak things perfectly. My question is when restoring to an older nandroid backup, do I need to wipe anything beforehand? Thanks.

Yes. From 2.1 to 2.2 and vice versa wipe. Your backups will have the data anyways so its just to do a clean install.
