Where is "next" text suggestions...for instance...

On my former Droid X or on my wife's current RAZR, say my name is John Smith...If I type in "John" then "Smith" shows up above. I found the option for this in her RAZR but cannot find it anywhere on my Galaxy Nexus. I have looked thoroughly so am assuming it is not there. Am I missing something? I miss this feature as it is a huge timesaver. Thank you!

Perhaps she is using one of the various keyboard applications from the market. Swiftkey can do this, as can a few of the others (AI Type is another example).
