Wi-Fi only mode for travel?

Hi all,

Is there a Wi-Fi only mode on the Droid RAZR? I'd love to bring my RAZR on a trip, but am worried about data charges abroad. Is there a mode similar to Airplane mode where it will only connect to free Wi-Fi hotspots?

Cheers,
Matt

When i went to alaska and canada I just turned data roaming off. I did get warning texts when i was in canada data roaming area. With verzion alaska is part of my nationwide plan, so i had data there also.

Cool... is it as simple as turning data roaming off? I'll be traveling to France and Greece. I don't plan to make any calls, but am just worried that I'll rack up charges when using apps, receiving SMS texts, sending/receiving email, using maps and the Web.

Any tips are appreciated!

I've read that if you turn airplane mode on then enable wifi, your phone will be wifi only.

You won't be able to text using Verizon because each text sent and received will cost a fortune (well, lots more than what it should). You can get a Wi-Fi text app that you use over Wi-Fi and that would be free but you will have a different number. There is also NavFree app where you download the maps while on Wi-Fi for the country that you are visiting and then you can use that app with just GPS even when you are not on Wi-Fi.
