Wi-Fi signal

I have the Droid Eris through Verizon that has Wi-Fi connectivity.
I know that this device will RECEIVE a wi-fi signal, but does it send one out?
My laptop is also Wi-Fi capable. Will my laptop be able to pick up on the Wi-Fi signal sent out from the Droid device?

you need to hit up xda-developers , the eris is an htc phone so they should have the latest and greatest goodies for it.
