Wi-Fi sucks compared to 3G?

I have a 54Mbps wireless router at home (WRT45G) that I consistently get ~600K downloads (16Mpbs provider) on any computer connected wirelessly to it, yet the Droid constantly gets poor or no connectivity through it. The Market tends to fail consistently as well.

Everything works fine through 3G however, so did Verizon or Motorola sabotage the WiFi on this phone, does the hardware suck, or is the firmware or software just not very good for it?

Test

I ran speedtest with my wndr 3700 and the results were 2348 up and 2156 dn. I then ran a test with my wrt54g with ddwrt and the results were 2278 dn and 2215 up. Sorry this is not a solution, but maybe something to get your troubleshooting started. This is with a 12Mb dn and 3Mb up service.

I have the same in a house that absolutely repels any signal and my Droid runs very fast using it. You must be having some sort of other issue.

I have difficulties as well, but I also had a Blackberry Storm 2 and had the exact same issue.

I believe it might be because my wireless router is a Linksys "N." Now I know absolutely nothing about routers however I have read several threads that say the "N" is a problem and you need to try a different channel.

Interesting. I have a wireless setup upstairs that I connect to daily with 2 different laptops and 2 different Droids. It is a WRT54GS supporting an early version of the "N" spec and using 128 bit WEP encryption. Never misses a beat. It was purchased about 3 years ago and the firmware has never been updated. This is for sure a case of "it ain't broke so I am not going to fix it". :)

SpeedTest app for Droid:
Salt Lake City, UT to Liberty Lake, WA

3G through Verizon:
123kbps down 338 up
204 down 734 up
123 767

Wi-Fi through WRT54G through Comcast:
4316kbps down 1114 up
0 down 0 up (failed for some reason)
0 0

I don't know how to explain this. I have two wireless computers running (1 laptop, 1 desktop) and they're having 0 problems, even through SpeedTest. I guess I have to troubleshoot my router, but I've seen other posts on the Droid having problems with Wi-Fi. I wonder if Comcast is somehow blocking it, but I don't know why they would.
