Widget uninstall

I have the HTC Eris and I ma having battery life problems. I would like to uninstall widgets and applications from my phone. I know you can put them in the trash, but how do I "uninstall?"

Also, I have read the task killers are bad. Are they? I have the Advanced Task Manager.

Have you tried Quick Uninstaller?

I use Advanced Task Killer also, with no bad side effects. However when I run it to kill apps, I also tell it to kill itself. That way I'm sure it's not just hanging out there running.
