wifi and 3G clash

We have two Droid 2 and the second one has an issue with wifi. When I access our wifi it finds the signal but then the wifi bar and 3G bar show but now neither work. 3G alone works OK. And in airplane mode (3G off) the wifi works. But phone can no longer suppress 3G if there is a wifi signal and all internet access is lost.
Other phone is fine.
Any thoughts would be welcome.

Could be an app you installed causing issues. Could be the recent update. You should probably go into settings and do a factory data reset.

How much do I lose if we do a factory reset?? Is the SD card safe from the reset?

You'll loose your installed apps, but everything on your SD card will stay intact.
