WiFi connected, but no access provided via wifi

I have two Incredibles -- 1 and 2 (the latter an unlocked Verizon phone). In each case, in one of the areas I access wifi, the phones "see" the wifi connection and display the connection in the notification bar, but in neither case can the phones connect via wifi -- all wifi-only apps are unavailable/non-useable. What adjustments must be made on the router for me to connect?

I've tried disabling the password, but the same situation pertains when password-protected, or not. In each case, the wireless network is reported on the phone as enabled, with IP and Mac addresses displayed.

Thoughts? I will really appreciate help with this.
