Wifi "disconnected"

I have owned five droid 1's and now a droid 2. And on every single one I've had issues connecting to wifi. Some were worse than others. It will say my network, the linksys at the top, is disconnected. Sometimes when I manually connect it'll work. But other times like now, no matter what, it will not connect. My laptop and my roommates computers connect with no issues. What's going on here? Do droids have wifi issues? Or do they have issues with certain network securities? This has been driving me nuts for like a year now.

Same thing is happening to me. I think it has something to do with linksys being locked. When unlocked, it connects just fine. But when I have linksys locked and I try to connect, it says "obtaining ip address..." for maybe 30 seconds, "turning off", "turning on", "disconnected."

Its an endless loop. I even tried adding it to the network on my pc but no cigar. Extremely frusterating.

What do you mean by "locked"? Are you referring to network security (WEP, WPA, etc)? I've seen Android devices work on secured networks without issue, so I know they can. I just thought maybe using a more secure network might affect things. In the past I believe I was using WEP, but my new roommate insisted on WPA and I've been having this problem the whole time.

Yes I'm using WEP. I really know nothing about that type of stuff though. But I'm guessing I have to switch from WEP? What does that mean exactly and how do I do it? How will that effect my security? If at all.

WEP is very easy to crack...WPA is significantly harder. So if youre concerned about people using your wifi, use WPA. If you could care less, dont use any encryption. there may be other concerns with it, but im no IT pro.

I just want to figure out why my wifi doesnt like my droid (or vise versa)

Had the same issue on my D2.. went away after I flashed a ROM. Might try backing up your data and doing a factory reset if you like stock. Or find a blurry ROM?

funny you should say that, i just flashed fission and am in the process of gingerbread theming it :icon_ banana::icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

So far so good. After flashing fission I didn't even need to connect to wifi, it was already connected somehow. Ill report back with any problems.

My droid 1 was having problems with wifi. Random disconnects, connecting loops, etc. One day, for an unrelated reason, I decided to buy a droid x. After a week, in an attempt to improve the already outstanding x battery life, I overclocked it. The same wifi problems began. So I sbf'd to stock and the problems went away. I was always flashing custom kernels and messing with the cpu speed on my first droid, so I have wondered if that was the source of my wifi problems like it was on my droid x

WEP is better than no encryption; not many people know how to crack it, but it is crackable and that is why wpa is better because it is almost as safe as a wire. However, unless you are dealing with someone really tech savvy you don't have to worry about some creepy pedophile using your connection to download his child porn, which is probably the best threat of an open connection.

I had the problem bone stock unrooted on both D1 and D2. And it was a problem on D2 stock rooted but not ROMed. I can't remember if it was a problem on D1 ROMed since that was last summer, but in all likelihood it was.

Lol never thought about that one. WEP isn't that hard to crack though; just google "cracking WEP". That's what my roommate did to gain access to our neighbors wifi lol
