Wifi Hotspot on Droid

I received my 2.2 update yesterday. I noticed I can tether via usb but was not able to find mobile hotspot feature.
Can this be done on the droid?

I think Verizon said that the Droid "does not have the hardware to support hotspot".

So yeah.

I'm trying to find out if that's true and see if you can root Froyo 2.2 and put a custom ROM with it enabled.

YES you can root and get wifi tethering. Check the hacks section for more info.
