Wifi problems or just me?

I just got my droid 2 days ago, and someone told me that i had to use a static IP to get wifi working properly. that fixed my problem when trying to connect to the internet with wifi, now for some reason when i try to download apps off the market, it stays at "starting downloads".

the minute i switch wifi off, it works. why does wifi work when browsing but not downloading apps?

When browsing the net with the Droid, you're using TCP 80 or 443 (http / https). When downloading from the market it will use TCP 80 for most of the transaction, but uses a TCP 5228 session to start off. You're likely behind a firewall that disallows this small but vital data flow to get things started.

Have your firewall allow outgoing TCP 5228 (and keep state), and you'll likely get things working just fine.

Best of luck.
