Wifi tethering not connecting to computer?

Okay im sure there is a post on here that has the info I need but I looked for a few hours and cannot find anything. I have a Droid X2 with gingerbread it is rooted with the one click root, I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I am trying to use Barnacle Wifi tether. The tether seems to be working okay on the phone itself the log shows no fails and says running at the bottim log. The encryption is on with a simple password so I cant screw that up, the channel I have changed several times to get it to work. The laptop recognizes the tether, when I try to connect I get a password request after I enter the password it never does connect until it finally times out.

Any suggestions

Has anybody experienced this or know any options right now I'm using foxfi and it sucks any idea or thoughts would be appreciated

I did a ittle research and I found that I may need a custom kernel but from what I understand Barnacle doesnt require this, and also X2 will not allow you to load cutom kernels. any help would be amazing.
