Wireless tether stops after about 5 minutes of use?

So I used to use the wireless tether for root users app all the time, but now it has been cutting out on me after roughly 5 minutes of downloading.

Does anyone else have this problem? I'm pretty sure it is on Verizon's side of things, as Barnacle also has the same issue.

I'm on Droid 1, running Metickone's clean frg22d with Darkedge 1.0.

What version of the app are you running? Is the app itself cutting out or is it your 3G service? Is the app cutting out on the phone's end or on the tethered device's end? Are you running antivirus or a task killer? Does the problem persist immediately after a reboot? How many devices are you tethering to the phone at one time?

2.0.2

I assume it is the app, because I still have a 3g signal in the notification bar.

The app is cutting out on the phone's end. Unless there is a better way to figure this out, I am going off of the fact that I get the same behavior trying to tether a mac or a pc. Is there a better way to figure this out?

Nothing of the sort, I read stickys and I like my phone speedy ;)
Does the problem persist immediately after a reboot?
Yes
How many devices are you tethering to the phone at one time?
1, I tried 2 once, and got the exact same behaviour.

Thanks for trying to help!

Go to the link in my sig and install the latest pre version. The version in the market is months out of date. See if that helps at all -- it gives us a starting point. :)

Well, it just takes longer now to cut out now, probably about every ten minutes, or every 80Mb, it also (on my bandwidth chart) looks like every minute or so it cuts out and then starts again right away. I'll get a picture up in a while, I'm heading to work right now.

That's an improvement. It sounds to me like the 3G is cutting out, though, if it's that regular. I have the same problem on mine, though a reboot often fixes it. Crappy cell service up here because Verizon won't activate the tower they just put in a couple miles up the road.

Anyway, we'll put this on hold till you're off work. :)

fixed (sort of)

Well, after installing the latest version of wireless tether, it was performing slightly better, but then I started having issues with my cat5 internet as well, so I reinstalled all the latest drivers for all my laptops internet controllers. Now the tether works for LONG periods of time. :D

In fact, it let me download Dirt 2 last night, over 5 gigs without a problem!
(legally :D)

So for now it looks like it's solved. just installed new versions of everything, I also installed some windows updates that I had been putting off that had nothing to do with wireless, but hey, who knows....

Same problem here. I installed the latest version, but it didn't solve anything. After a short time, the download and upload logs both reset to zero and devices can't reach the internet until I restart the tether. Nothing shows up in the log and I haven't seen any patterns around when it happens.

I will try a new channel, but I doubt it will do anything, considering the app just seems to give up.

Is there any way to check a debug log in the app to see if there is some kind of error or exception occurring?

me too

when i use mine it actually give me a error message stating that wireless tether has started with error and it says please check show logs and then a second one saying my phone is in an unknown state and to try and reboot the device also i also have two tethering icons on it displaying on the main app now one to start and the other to stop that happens after the error messages go away.... when i go to the log i have our things that are being shown there from top to bottom they say monday oc 18 and time enabaling nat rulles... done, enabling ip forwarding done, enabling access control failed, tethering now running done, i have uninstaled the app and instaled it from the market i am rooted but have just the 2.2 ota software on my fon no rom thanks in advanced for any help
