Cyanogenmod compromising my Android phone?

Hi,
I am using Galaxy Nexus, and I have installed Cyanogenmod 10.2.0-maguro.
Yesterday I spoke to someone who works at Microsoft, and I proudly told him of my new installed system, which get ongoing updates, which I didn't before, because my phone was nearly 2 years old, so Google doesn't support my phone anymore.
Then he starts talking about if my new system was safe to use, and maybe the guys who made this for free was someone who has interests in hacking people who uses Cyanogenmod......
I didn't know what I to tell him, to convince him otherwise.


Could you clarify this...

I've been running CyanogenMod's rom on my phones for years, since I had the original Droid, and have never issues like your Microsoft friend talks about.
