Handcent contact issues

Okay, I've only had my phone about three weeks and I can't recall if Handcent was working correctly before or not.

I have set it as default. When I receive messages, handcent opens it up correctly. It's when I want to send a message that's the problem. If I go through the Handcent program and then select my contact it will work. But, if I just scrolled through my contacts and chose to message them it opens up the droid messenger. Also, the message box icon is still the droid messenger under contacts. Any ideas?

I think I figured it out. I just installed Chomp to see what would happen and that allowed me to get the pop up notification on what to set as default when choosing a text message through the contents. It's working as I expect so far Hopefully it stays this way.
