Q. I downloaded a third party application for messaging (Handcent, ChompSMS, etc), how do I disable the default notifications so that I'm not receiving duplicate or two messages for each one?

A. Go into the default messaging service, hit the menu button, go to settings, then scroll down and uncheck notifications. Now you will only get notifications through your third party app.

No option to disable notificatiosns

Hi,

I have the same issue and want to disable the stock notifications so I can use a 3rd party SMS application. In Menu > Settings I do not see an option to disable notifications, only the option to disable the notification sound.

I have an HTC Incredible. Would appreciate prompt advice because I go on-call in 2 hours and really need this working for pages. How to I disable SMS?

Thanks!
brian

Go to your stock messaging app. Settings...notifications...uncheck the box that's says notifications
