Go to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.

It will erase all your settings and apps and whatnot. Also, if your contacts aren't synced to Google, they will be deleted also. So go to google.com/contacts and make sure they are there before you do it.

Could be a dumb question but would it be a good idea to unmount the SD card before the reset?

Doesn't matter either way, it won't touch your sd card. If you are scared though, feel free :p

Or just root and install a ROM! I actually rooted and just installed the latest official 2.1 leak and then overclocked and deleted BS apps that my wife doesn't use. Then put LauncherPro on top of that.

LP makes it faster, overclocking smooths everything out, and it still seems stock because it isn't a full rom.

And how do you do all this? i'm new to all this.

Much I anger in you I sense, young Jedi..........

haha!

the anger is swelling in me too. i hate this phone now. liked it fine before the update, now i also want to see how many pieces i can smash it into.

i'm probably gonna go to verizon sometime this week and see what kind of "trade in deal" they would offer on an incredible since their update ruined my phone.

Did you even try the suggestions we made about doing a factory data reset? If you try it you won't hate your phone. A little trust here. ;)

Hey you after you do the update to the new software, you need to call *228 and update your phone with verizon... it will make it run just like before.

Well, I did the factory reset. Now I can't find half the apps I used in the Market anymore. Slidescreen Pro is nowhere to be found. What a mess. You can add Handcent to the list too. No real apps show up for me. Lots of irrelevant porn though. What the heck?

Update: Searching "My Downloads" shows nothing. Searching for Handcent shows me all teh available 'font packs' but not the actual app. Trying to download Slidescreen via their website (since I can't find it on the Market searching by name or developer) shoots me an error.

Other fun things since the update/reset include the Amazon MP3 store starting all the time by itself as well as other programs. Heading to the Verizon store tonight because this is just stupid.

Did you guys do a factory reset after the OTA was installed?

Yes. I agree you should do a factory data reset all of you that are experiencing problems with 2.1. That will clean everything up for you.

How do you do the factory data reset on the eris and will it delete all of my songs, pictures and stuff?

Sorry you cant find half your apps. There needs to be a thread on her just to perform FR. You wont be able to find your apps on the market. You will be able to find the first few in the "my downloads" folder, but after 2 or 3 of them, they delete. Did you have astro file manager installed?

Doing a FR is easy, and IMHO, essential to get rid of a lot of problems experienced on the 2.1.

Here are some instructions.

Disclaimer- Everything on the phone WILL GET ERASED...so back up, back up, and back up.

First, if you haven't done so, back up your contacts, pictures, etc. You can use gmail to back up your contacts, and Lookout mobile to back up the rest. You don't have to worry about your SD card because the FR wont affect it.

After everything is backed up and you're SURE of it, either write down you applications, or download app brain in the market. It's just an application to help you remember your apps. If you did have astro file manager, your applications are backed up to the card, and most of them should be there for you to just click on and install.

Now you are ready for the FR. First, shut off your phone. After it is off, hold the vol down button and send key, and then press the power button. You should get a boot menu. Just follow the onscreen instructions and it will guide you through. It's very simple. When it is finished, you will have to reactivate your phone. Everything is easy to follow and will prompt you.

IF .... IF by some reason something goes wrong and you can't activate, DON'T worry. What happened was the lock codes were probably reset to something different during the procedure. Just call #8899 and you'll get technical support and they will fix everything for you. But don't worry, it is a rare occasion.

If FR didn't work for you, chances are you have a faulty device. It seems that FR is solving A LOT, and by A LOT I mean A LOT of problems that people have. Also, its been noticed that if you have a faulty or sketchy device with 1.5, you will with 2.1 and you need a replacement. Verizon is aware of these issues and are very lenient on giving replacement phones.

You not being able to find your apps in the market has nothing to do with 2.1. If you were unaware, the market is having a lot problems right now, and a lot of apps can't be found. You will have to sit tight, or you will have to find links to downloads, download them to your computer, put them on your SD card, and use astro file manager to put them on your phone.

Go to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset.

It will erase all your settings and apps and whatnot. Also, if your contacts aren't synced to Google, they will be deleted also. So go to google.com/contacts and make sure they are there before you do it.

This is another way to do a FR, but a couple people have said that by doing this, they aren't able to access their setting menus afterwards. I don't know why, but it's what I hear. The normal route, from what I can tell, is the one I described above. But yes, there are 2 ways to do it.

Interesting suggestion. I would like more information related to this.

I just tried it on my phone, though I am having no issues. It was quick and painless and did require a reboot. I will report back later as to any issues.
