Static IP and DNS

So I need to have a DHCP assigned IP address, but a manual DNS server. I have tried to enter a DNS server in the advanced settings and left the IP address blank, however that doesn't seem to work.

Entered it where? App? PC?

In WiFi settings on the phone (Moto Droid), I went into advanced settings, checked 'Use Static IP' then filled in the DNS server field, but left the others blank. I was hoping that it would get the blank fields automatically.

Ah...I've never had mine fill in automatically...
