beeps when an email comes in

I have a droid x and when an email comes in, it beeps. When a text message is coming in, it beeps and brings the message up on the screen. How do I stop these things from happening? I'll check them during the day but I don't need to hear them all day long.

I moved your thread to the X general discussion section. On my Droid I can disable notifications for email and test or I can select a silent notification, turn the volume off. In the text application I uncheck the pop up message box.
