contacts in trash

How do I stop contacts from ending up in trash - this is the 2nd time over 500 contacts ended up in trash - this happened on 18 August and 2 Sept. I have a new Galaxy S23

Hello welcome to the forum...are you backing up the contacts with Samsung contact app ?
