Deleting text message drafts?

How do you delete a draft from you text messages?

I started to type something, but I decided to not send it, so it saved as a draft. I went back in to the message and deleted it with backspace, but it still remains there when I go back in to it.

Same thing happens to my girlfriend and me as well. I posted about it in another forum and some say it also happened to them, and others it didnt happen too. It MAY be fixed in 4.0.3. Id like to see what others here have to say about this issue. My gf is all stock, i am just rooted and unlocked; both running 4.0.2.

To recreate the problem:
open stock messenger and go into a persons thread
write something in the bar but dont send it
back out of it so that on the main messenger screen it says you have a draft in that thread
go back into that person and backspace out whatever you wrote
now back to the all threads screen

under that persons name does it still have your drafts text? It always does for me.
NOTE: sometimes it takes a few minutes for the draft to come back

I followed these steps verbatim on my nexus (stock, not rooted), and the draft notification goes away. Not sure why it sticks on your phones.

Well maybe its an issue with being rooted and on a custom rom.

I'm running Android Rev HD 2.1.2.

Those that are having this problem, are you rooted as well? What rom?

Hmm n/m as a previous poster said his gf phone is stock and has this problem. I'm still on 4.02, maybe I'll flash a 4.03 rom this weekend and see what happens.

When the draft pops up erase it and type a message and then "send" it.

well yeah that works, but I don't want to send them a message. Its more of an OCD thing were I don't like seeing the word draft in red there. I could just delete the whole thread as well.

Point is, why is their no discard draft option?

I agree... I do miss it myself.

I've found a few instances in ICS where they have removed an option or feature that was useful.

Yes there are ways around things, but I don't understand why they are making some things more difficult.

EDIT: So when I tried it very quickly it, for some reason, worked. But then later I went back into the messaging app and there was the draft message again. If I go into the thread, there is no draft message. So I am affected too, unfortunately. Sorry for the misleading post! But I swear it worked when I tried it, haha. :D

Like I noted, sometimes it takes a few mins for the draft to pop back up.

As an aside, talking about options that were in GB but not ICS. There is no longer an option to disable enter to send messages which is SO aggravating for me using Thumb Keyboard

found it

I might be resurrecting a somewhat old thread but I think I've found a workaround.

Go to the thread, make sure you've erased all text in the draft, attach a picture, then delete the picture. It's kind of a PITA but it appears to work for me.
