I haven't found a good way to wirelessly transfer files back and forth between my phone and my computer using wifi that is very useful.

I've tried SwiFTP, which turns the phone into an FTP server. This worked once then never again. FTP server is another one, but had the same problem. Connection always times out.

I've tried Dropbox (along with DropSpace) but the speed is so ridiculously slow. I uploaded a 2.5mb picture to sync with my PC and and it took about 5 minutes.

Tried the MediaShare app that's on the phone, but it can't ever find my PC.

Tried the various File explorers such as Astro and ES, but wasn't able to do it for some reason.

All I'm really looking for is a quick way to backup my SD card to my PC.

Actually, you can transfer file between your phone and computer directly via usb cable by using pro Android data manager tool. With its help, you can transfer data like contacts, text messages, videos, music, call logs, photos, etc between them.
