Gingerbread 2.3

I recently installed the gingerbread 2.3 OS on my Eris, and it's so faulty that I want my old operating system back. I can't do hardly anything on it, it's slow, and it's just an all over terrible system. I can't figure out how to get my old system back, though. Can someone help me either revert it or redownload/install it?

Boot into recovery, and restore your NAND backup you made before you flashed to the gingerbread ROM.

I tried that and it says
E:Couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid
But I DID back it up first.

OK, mount your sd card (either through a card reader or via USB) and check your sd card to make sure there is a file in the /sdcard/nandroid folder.

Was it a 2.3 ROM or an OTA Update ? I was under the impression that the Eris was EOL (End Of Life) phone according to Verizon and wouldn't recieve anymore software updates after 2.1
