How to disable emails from making my phone flash Droid 2 mobile

I can't seem to be able to set my phone so that whenever I get an email I only get a notification on the top bar but NOT turn on the flashing green light. I want the flashing green light to indicate things more important than a new email popping up. I also don't want to change my default email.
