kernel?

how to i change the kernel i have? I rooted using unrevoked 3.3 and i want to overclock and do other things but i can't even figure out what a kernel is? is that unrevoked 3.3 or...something? how do i know if i can overclock on it? i searched overclock and kernel on the forums but i can't figure it out? i figured out ROMS well, kinda, but still have no idea what a kernel is?

If you are unfamiliar with overclocking I suggest that you don't even bother seeing as how it is very possible to burn out your processor...start off with some custom roms and see if that gets you where you want to go. I wouldn't recommend overclocking to anyone that isn't very familiar with the process seeing as how you've already voided your manufacturer warranty via rooting the device the last thing you want to do is totally kill your phone
