my htc thunderbolt got damaged ( cat puke or pee who knows) got sent a new one due to insurance.... i want to root, but can't afford a bricked phone so would i be able to practice on the deactivated phone prior to my newly activated its thunder****?

if it works yes.. just hook it to wifi.. there really is not much that can go wrong with the tbolt...
