You are referring to the current S8 and S8+ that was released last month? No, they don't support the s-pen. The note series use the s-pen and we are expecting a new note to be released by September 2017... hopefully.

Personally I think a tablet is a better size for taking notes, so I would recommend either the tab a with S Pen or the new Galaxy tab S3.
