Streaming with hdmi no sound on tv

Why don't the phone send the sound to the tv while I have my phone connected to an hdmi port on the tv with a cable?
The sound only plays thru the phone.

Welcome to the Forum. I don't believe the Galaxy S8 has an HDMI port on the phone, correct? How are you connecting the phone to the TV HDMI port? What kind of cable setup are you using?

exactly what cable are you using, may not be able to carry sound.

A Belkin USB-C to HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable to the tv

I didn't move the cable around to different hdmi ports, I should try that

Looked thru the settings and didn't see nothing. Tried moving it to the other 2 hdmi ports and nothing changed

I would say that the usb c on the phone doesn't support sound coming out maybe?

the site that had the tv manual was too slow so I could not look it up. it could be as the previous post stated, it could be the usb-c does not support sound.

According to a few sites I saw yesterday the Galaxy S8 (and S8+) do support USB C to HDMI audio and video using the "official Samsung USB C to HDMI adapter". Not sure why the official adapter would be much different than a Belkin?

I think in this case it has to do with the tv not the phone or adapter.

That's very possible. @jcrevard do you have any friends or family with a different model / brand of TV that you could test with? See if you get sound with your cable setup on their TV?

Yeah I should, actually we have another tv I believe that has an hdmi hook up. Ill try that this afternoon
