Cheap way to get a new phone?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on an older plan w/Unlimited Data.
My wife was a tracphone.

What do you all think about the following?
Get her a new Galaxy S5 and a $15/month plan
Switch the SIM cards between phones
Now the Galaxy S5 becomes mine w/the Unlimited Data
The Galaxy Nexus becomes hers on the $15/month plan
Set the Galaxy Nexus to Wifi only to ensure it doesn't go over her 250MB a month.
Then, in 2 years, upgrade her's again and swap the SIM card with mine.

What do we think? Is this possible? Will this allow us to get the cheaper phones with the plan without me losing Unlimited Data?

I'm not a VZW plan expert but have read that many peeps upgrade and switch the sims. I guess it works.

It works fine as long as the phone is compatible on Verizons network. (CDMA)
