I don't see why so many people expect the screen to be indestructible? It is glass after all. If you drop it, it can break. Even "bullet proof" glass still breaks, it just has other materials in it that holds together and stops the bullet from penetrating.
But seriously, for how thin and small the screen's glass is, it is pretty tough. I've dropped mine on concrete 3 or 4 times and it's still intact with one tiny scratch that's almost imperceptible.
