Current Phone Model
Samsung Galaxy S4
I have a Galaxy S4 and my camera is always upside down. When I take pictures they are displayed upside down. When I tilt the phone for landscape mode it displays upside down and stays in landscape mode. YouTube videos do the same thing. I tried a factory reset but no luck. Pulled SIM card and power cycled. Still not working. Installed GPS tester and phone tester. I am out of bullets.

When holding your device in landscape mode, your home button is on the right, correct? (Just checking)
If so, have you tried recalibrating your gyroscope?

Yes but no matter what orientation the camera soft keys are upside down.

How do I recalibrate the gyro?

Depending on what version Jelly Bean you're on, you may not have this feature. Here's a guide to help you if you're still on 4.2.

You can also open up your camera settings and scroll down to "reset" to reset your camera settings to stock. Good luck.

I have Android 4.4.2. There is no gyroscope calibration selection in the motions and gestures menu of my phone.

Hang in there Dale, hopefully someone will have some other suggestions for you.

Using Sensor Status in the phone tester App I compared the accelerometer with a friend's S3. The X and Y coordinates have reversed signs. Gyro appears to be acting properly.

Problem solved by replacing the cracked screen which I should have mentioned in the first place. I didn't believe that they were related. I did have to do the removal of the SIM card once afterward, but no problems since.
