Setting preferred sms app as default on Oppo A57

Does anyone know how to permanently reset the default phone and messaging apps on the Oppo A57? I have checked with the manufacturer and they say it is not changeable so to protect my information.

I have read elsewhere that as it is a Chinese phone it is set so they can monitor their own people.

if the manufacturer says it cannot be changed, I doubt anyone here will be able to help. you may want to check the xda forums. you may be able to root then customized it and the xda forums has the experts.

Welcome to the Forum. Can you download another SMS / Text app from the Play Store and when opening it receive a pop-up asking if you want it to be the default? That's how normal Android works. If your manufacturer runs a heavily skinned version of Android (it sounds like they do) then what you are asking may not be possible with that phone model.
