Now that the FCC has released a download speed tester for Android (It's free. Search for "FCC" in the market place.) I thought it would be neat to compare results. So run the app and post your results. Screenshots would be cool too.

1. Leave the speed settings at their default (Mbps)
2. List which server you're testing against.
3. List where you were when you ran the test.

I'll start :)

Testing against Washington, DC server while sitting in my office in Glen Allen, VA:

Down: 0.71 Mbps
Up: 0.16 Mbps
Latency: 141 ms

I just updated my PRL and got these numbers:

Down: 0.91 Mbps
Up: 0.22 Mbps
Latency: 152ms

I will post numbers from my FiOS connection as soon as I get home.

In Los Angeles, CA. Testing against the server in Seattle, WA (I have no idea why, it was the default. Tested against the Los Angeles server, but these earlier speeds were faster.)

Down: 1.95 Mbps
Up 0.78 Mbps
Lat: 152 ms

And oddly enough, results were faster/par with my home DSL speeds. I now know why I don't even bother turning on WiFi anymore ...

Btw, how does one do a screenshot? Just never had a reason to get one until today ...

On 3G against Seattle, WA server from office in Denver, CO

Down: .86
Up: .65
Latency: 387ms

Running Droidmod at 800mhz

Edit: I'm in downtown Denver. Does anyone have a guess as to why my speeds seem significantly slower?

First image is Wifi, second is 3G. From Milwaukee. Not sure how my upload can be that high on Wifi, since our cable service is 10 down and 1 up.

If you are rooted there are several free programs in the market that make it easy.

This program has to be from Speedtest.net. It looks almost identical. So with our tax dollars the FCC bought a program from a company that gives the program away for free? In the fine print they also are collecting IP address and location info when you run the test.
