I have managed to get WiFi tethering working on the vortex in infrastructure mode

First off you need to be rooted for this to work obviously
second off download WiFi tether from
android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting
and click Get it from Here

Third go to settings and make sure that Device profile is set to Auto than go to Setup Method and change that to Netd and that should do it. Now any wireless devices can connect to your phone!

Cant edit from my phone but when you turn it off it reboots your phone which isnt a bad thing since it completely turns it off and i recommend a reboot after using this application

Sorry for the late response. I used superone click to root my vortex. Gingerbreak has also proved easier to use than anything else i have found.
