Why the hell would you keep all of your music on your phone without backing it up? Seems to me that's the real fail right there.......

EDIT: Sorry Joe, didn't notice your post where you mentioned not having a computer. Do you have any friends that have a PC that they would let you use to burn your music to a DVD/BluRay/etc. disc? You would have to use their computer again to restore it (or another PC) but at least you'd have a backup. Always a good idea when you're storing your music on flash memory, anyways - as flash memory is prone to sudden failure/corruption/both.

This thread made me lol. OP has his panties in a bunch because he doesn't like the background color of the messaging app or the fact that he has more homescreens than before. Then he complains when people tell him what to do to "fix" it, then he stops replying.

This is a persistent bug with Motorola! My Droid X didn't come with my favorite color either. The thing is, the only people to care about my favorite color are the people who make crayons! This is ridiculous. I am 5 years old. Hi.

Starting with you, I had to sleep, I work the nightshift, now i'm back and ready to reply to all, try to keep from assuming things... My panties are "in a bunch" because as I have stated previously this issue goes bigger than the changed colors or the extra homescreeens (which I said I don't mind but if I have to lose them to go back to the old launcher that is fine with me). It is about the lack of control, I have been a dedicated Hardcore PC user since Windows 93 - this is because of the extreme amount of control PC's give their users, you can change the look of anything and everything freely and even delete anything (here is my problem #1 with twitter and amazon mp3 store) WITHOUT having to hack/root your computer. You can even delete system 32 if you want and ruin your OS, you get warnings sure but they will still let you. I hate Apple and Iphones due to their extreme problems with letting users control their own phones, I don't want the droid going down that route, but it seems they are heading straight for that path. THAT is why I call it a disaster, it's not just about the black or the homescreens, it's about being FORCED to do something without choices outside of rooting the phone.

What are you going to do if you can't make your droid work the way it did?

I'm going to root my phone reluctantly.

Then go backwards. If you can't become accustom to the vast improvements because of a few things you don't like then go back. 2.2 is far from a disaster.

I searched frantically as soon as it happened on how to go backward, if you would kindly tell me how to go backward that would be fantastic, I even did a full factory reset on my phone and when it booted, to my demise it was still 2.2. Read above for why I state it's a disaster.

Just one thing I want to point out to the OP. As far as the launcher goes, if it isn't built to the OS, it's going to have issues. Works that way with any app and sometimes when you have an upgrade some things happen. But to go back to 2.1 is well, really kind of a huge mistake.

But it's your phone, do as you like.

Well i'm not fully looking to go back to 2.1 but if I can't change my problems and control my phone then I just might have to, I have seen the updated camera and I am happy with that at least... and a huge thank you to that last sentence, that is EXACTLY my point with this entire issue! I want to do as I like, not how verizon/google likes.

it seems the biggest gripe (other than mms) has to do with the dockbar. But, there are lots of launcher apps in the mkt, such as ADW and Launched Pro. Most will have the dockbar cuz that seems to be what people want. But you may be able to find one to your liking. Good luck!

You seem to understand 100% this is like touching my woman haha! I have been trying to find a launcher that I like but so far they all look the exact same as the current launcher in 2.2. If you happen to come across any that have the appdrawer styled launcher please point me in the right direction.

Perhaps you should get a different launcher, that will definitely help. Launcher pro is great. Also, handcent really isn't that hard to use. Just set it to dark and don't mess with the other settings.

I'll try out launcher pro, my problem with handcent is that it changes more than it fixes when I set it to black and leave it alone, I even went through and changed a few other things back to stock look, I might have no choice but to go back to it at the end of this.

About the background being white....as long as the text is black, there should be no problem reading....

Hey everyone, I just got the 2.2 OTA update on my stock Moto Droid, I installed hoping it would be fine and it turns out I loathe it with every fiber of my being. If i can change a few things back without having to root i'll be a happy man again...

First off I need the messages to go back to being black background on the selection screen, not that horrible unreadable white. Then I want to remove the portraits next to the messages and have it go back to the 2.1 version.

(I tried handcent and it's far too much to handle it. Some things can be fixed but then it becomes a whole other monster of it's own.)

Second I need those buttons at the bottom of the screen to be back to being my regular slideup bar from 2.1

I'll be happy with going back to the 3 home screens, but if that can't be changed no worries. I expect there is nothing I can do but I figured it's worth asking, i've been lurking here for a long time and searching for these answers but everything seems to relate to getting different root ROMS.

Oh also on a sidenote, i would go straight to google about this but they seem to have a longstanding policy of completely ignoring their customers...I highly appreciate anything anyone can point me to.

No, I read most of the thread. You seem like a picky person and that would probably be your best choice. I know you are disapointed with the OTA so try a custom rom, they're better anyway.

Just read read read read read read. Once you get past flashing the new recovery and install a few roms its cake walk.

Yeah no problem. If you wanna see an example of a custom rom check out my gallery, I have screen shots of the current rom I'm running. My favorite so far, cusomizable to the T almost. Best of all, its FAST! =]

What the hell is your problem? snarky little bastard.

In the time you boo hoo'd throughout this thread, you could have actually used google to find out that if you flash a 2.0.1 stock sbf file using RSD lite, you'd be able to then apply the official 2.1 unrooted update.zip and you'd be back on unrooted 2.1. Or if you were too lazy to do that, you could at least be polite.

But noooo crying and acting smug clearly gets you so much farther...great job.

edit: I originally linked all the files you need to revert to 2.1 in this post, but nahh you can find them yourself.
