can anyone help me out? I DL'd the app from the market and it worked once. I downloaded the newest version from furbears sig straight to my phone, wireless tether 2.0.5 5-pre9.apk My macbook connects, but websites don't load. I reinstalled binaries/configs andenabled acces-control.

this functionality is available from the a .zip you can download/install from the team black hat app TeamBlackHat Download Manager - Android app on AppBrain you install the .zip in recovery and it unlocks the verizon 3g hotspot app

Actually, the Tether Repair patches from TBH do this in an entirely different manner by changing the data authentication strings in the NVM of the radio itself. This allows all forms of tethering to use the normal NAI for internal data rather than the tethered NAI for external devices.

This is a fundamental difference in modality.

Any form of tethering whether it be USB, BT or WiFi will always appear to the network as internal data with the normal authentication used by the phone for all 3G data services.

This also absolutely violates the TOS with VZW and is to be used at your own risk and personal discretion.

More information about the precise nature of the hack and the tools used to create it will be posted in a few days.

OK, got the latest one installed on D2, still broadcasting ad-hoc signal. Anyone know what I am missing or doing wrong??

2.0.5-pre11

looking at the settings now, but don't see anything that says ad-hoc, infrastructure, etc.

Thought it might be the LAN settings, but that just changes the IP address it gives out. Should I change that??

No, it wouldn't do anything that I'm aware of.

Okay, I'm at a bit of a loss because I know someone had set up to do it differently but I can't remember where.

Hey Remy, you're right. I'm not able to pickup a true hotspot after installing 2.0.5-pre11. The peer-to-peer ad hoc connection kills the battery and is restrictive with many devices, especially corporate laptops that ad hoc connections are disabled.

Wifi tether doesn't consider it a priority enhancement. Barnacle no love either. Although if you're running Windows 7, you can download software that will make your computer appear as a real access point - Connectify - Turn your Windows 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

I'm sure someone can come up with an app for Droid 2 without hacking the built in 3G hotspot. I assume the D2's chip can handle infra because that's how the built in works!

Still looking for other possibilities, but for now, I just stick with PDANet tether, don't share my connection with others.

You can root your phone (voiding your warranty). Once rooted you can tether for free.

Can you please explain how, as though you are talking to a 6th grader? I am not tech savy when it comes to Smartphones. Thanks.
:welcome: to the forum. The instructions are in link 3 in my signature. If you still cannot figure out how to root there is another option. We'll discuss it after you've read the link. :)

We already released the solution 3 weeks ago. It is on MDW.
Works on DX and D2.

Thanks Cell, although this is not a viable solution as it is a clear TOS breach. I'd be more comfortable with an app such as Wifi tether or Barnacle that just broadcasts in AP mode without having do the "hacks" as specified in the solution on MDW.
