I've tried to force the update but it will not work

I try 3-4 times a day using the framework method. Just be patient.

Try this method. It's a little different than the usual one, but a bunch of people are saying it worked the first try. Have Wifi On:

Settings>Apps>All>Google Services Framework>Disable>Force Stop>Clear Cache>Enable
Hit back twice, scroll down to About Phone and hit update

Worth a shot, I guess.

I've always wondered why they chose 1969 as the date.

Unix's time starts at midnight on Jan 1 1970 UTC. It is counted in seconds, so 1 would have been midnight Jan 1 1970. 1363963859 <-- that is roughly the current time via Unix Epoch.

When something goes wrong, like a 0 is returned...then you get Dec 31 1969 as it would be prior to Jan 1 1970.
