4.3" or 4.5" You Decide?

It's 4.3. There's just excess bezel around the screen.

You have to think about this from a business perspective. They want to make money. They're already using the screen tech from a prior device (DX2), they most likely have stock of the 4.3 pentile screens, so spending millions designing and manufacturing an entire screen with the same tech, just so it can be .2'' larger doesn't make business sense.

I don't necessarily agree with that. There are screens of several different sizes. 3.7, 4.0, 4.3 so why not do a 4.5 too. Especially if some of the competition has 4.5. I don't think the screens cost that much.

You don't believe having 3-5million new screens manufactured doesn't cost that much?

Not per unit, no. They're not giving phones away. I don't think a 4.5" screen costs much more than a 4.3" screen. It's not like the 4.3" screens are free. I'm not commenting on wether or not the screen is 4.5", just saying that I don't think they would avoid it due to cost alone. If the screen costs a few bucks more, the cost will be passed down to the consumer. If they think it's what their customers want to buy, why would they not spend a small amount more per unit to hopefully sell more units. They may also have other future devices that they would use the screens on.

This is by far the most math I've ever seen in a forum, who said cell phones can't be educational?

The average consumer isn't looking for a 4.5'' display, which is who they make these phones for(majority rules). It's almost limiting the market by making the screen larger.

Personally I just feel that there's zero point in making a screen .2'' larger when it's the same tech that you have a couple million units sitting in the storage room.

Agreed

And I've seen plenty of people hoping the screen is 4.5". I wasn't aware of the fact that Motorola already had a couple million extra 4.3" screens laying around in their warehouse. I guess Samsung didn't get the memo that no one wants a 4.5" screen.

I'm hoping for 4.5, i think it's the sweet spot. The infused sucked right? oh wait 2 people i know couldn't wait and went out to buy it last week. 4.5 sounds like a final, solid number. 4.7 doesn't sound good and 5.0 is getting into tablet size, 4.5 is good. I think someone will make a 4.7 and it will bomb out and suck and everyone will return, continue to make 4.3 and 4.5.

I hope it's a 4.5" but I think Liderc is right. It's probably cheaper for Moto to use 4.3" screens from the DX...but you never know.

While its possible, I doubt moto has a bunch of 4.3" screens just lying around. They probably made exactly as many as the needed for the DX and the bionic has nothing to do with that. If we're gonna go that route then we should say it will be 4" like the D3 or 3.7" like the OG Droid etc... it may turn out to be 4.3" but i doubt that would be because they had already made those screens for the DX

The reason I say they have 4.3's lying around(saying this loosely), is because this phone was not the original Bionic as we know. This phone was most likely going to be the next transformation of the DX2.

Since we know the screen is using the same tech(pentile) as the DX2, then in my mind this phone's screen was designed 7 months ago with the DX2's specs in mind. So most likely what happened is, they had already ordered massive amounts of these screens, knowing they'd be using them in the DX2 and it's big brother, the Targa(Bionic now).

This is all my opinion obviously, but I was just working it out the other day and hadn't really mentioned it until people were speculating the 4.5 from the pictures.

I will say though, the pictures make the screen look ginormous. Insanely tall.
