My experience with this
It actually is both ways. As someone mentioned before it depends on how your exchange server is set up. If you are allowed to access through webmail (which we were originally doing) then you can set it up using the Exchange selection and it works fine. If, however, your organization requires a higher level of protection and requires a MAPI connection you do need the additional $15 data plan. If you try to set it up with MAPI and don't have the plan there are authorization issues. It worked fine for me though the exchange option with the $30 plan - mail and calendar.
We have since changed over, but our company started using GoodLink for iphones and Droids so I still don't have to upgrade my plan :icon_ banana:
