A few observations

Next frustration. Google photos will not crop a photo to fit a contact, and if you select the photo through the contact app and attempt to crop it that way, unless it's perfectly square, you're not making it fit the contact. WTF is the deal with that?? Trying to make it as difficult as possible to use photos from the internet I'm guessing.

For that one, I'm not sure what to suggest. I don't use the Photos app. I use a Gallery app I pay for from the Play Store. The Photos app is OK as a Gallery but there are many better options in the Play Store for Gallery apps

I see what you mean. I downloaded a pic from the net. I picked a Contact and used Photos to crop and set the Contact pic. Every time I cropped, Photos kept blowing the pic up to be more full screen. There might be options in the Photos app to shrink, or crop at regular size but I'm not aware of them since I don't use it often. I used my Gallery app and repeated the process and the Contact pic is still a little blurry, but better than when I performed the same action using Photos.
