Adding a ROM for the first time! What should i do

Hi guys,

I have a rooted droid x with leaked 2.2 installed (flyx v0.1 Final i think)

I want to try some roms but i have some questions:

  1. Do i need to wipe data and cache every time i install a new rom. Is there anyway to keep all my settings, icons, and apps or do i need to start over every time from scratch??
  2. What is the best rom out there? I hear liberty and apex. I am into speed and features. lol. What do you guys recommend?
  3. I am running exchange... is there any roms that screw exchange up?
  4. Will i be able to run launcher pro on any rom?
  5. What are some things i can do to avoid bricking my phone as i play with roms.

I'm waiting to see what answers you get before I install LIBERTY (still chicken )

Sent from my DROID2 using DroidForums App

Lol well i was impatient... and before i got any answers i downloaded libery 1.5... put it at root on my sd card. Launched rom manager. Backed up and wiped everything and put liberty on.

and let me tell you i am really happy. It sucks that i have to reset up my home screens... BUT its amazing. Its SUPER quick.

SUPPPPER quick. Its like a new phone.

I highly recommend you just make the jump.

1. yes. unless the dev specifies otherwise. if not you will bootloop. google will automatically download your apps after you sign in from installing a new rom. titanium backup works great as well.
2. roms depend mainly on preference. if you want blur or no blur and stuff like that. i am currently running liberty 1.5 with a honeycomb theme. i personally love liberty. its smooth and blurless.
3. i believe exchange works on liberty. but i am not 100% positive so you should check the thread before quoting me
4. to my knowledge it should work on any rom
5. follow directions exactly. ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS. they will save you. trust me. and if you ever have any questions dont wait to ask. we're all friendly. if you have any other questions pm me and ill give you my gtalk

hope this helps
